Tips For Your First Meeting With An Attorney
We recognize that if you are reaching out to us, you are in a difficult situation. You or a family member is likely injured, or you have lost someone you love. You may not have ever needed a lawyer before.
Anesi Ozmon, LTD has been providing personal injury, workers’ compensation and other legal services to people in the Chicago Metropolitan Area and throughout Illinois since 1955. Over the years, we have refined our process to minimize stress for you and maximize the chances of a positive outcome. When you reach out to us for a free consultation, we will be very clear about whether you need to bring anything to your first meeting with your attorney.
With that said, here are some tips for your first meeting:
Get comfortable. Wear clothes that you are comfortable in. This isn’t court, so there’s no need for formal attire unless that is what you prefer. Have a meal or snack beforehand so you aren’t hungry. Have a beverage on hand if there’s one you prefer, or we can offer you one if you’re in our law office. There are plenty of restaurants near us in Downtown Chicago if you are visiting us in person, and our staff will be happy to make a recommendation.
Be prepared to explain in detail what happened. We encourage you to write your story down prior to your meeting. Talking about these situations can be emotional and it is easy to forget details, but if you have it all written down you will be fully prepared to talk about it.
Feel free to ask questions. The legal system is complicated. We expect that you will want to know more about how it works, so we always welcome questions. Add them to your notes so you don’t forget. Don’t worry about asking us to repeat ourselves. We know this can be a lot to absorb.
Know that, above all else, we are here to help you.
