Anesi, Ozmon, Rodin, Novak & Kohen, Ltd. Retained to Represent Victims Severely Injured After Vape Pens Exploded

Mar 29, 2016 | Firm News

Anesi, Ozmon, Rodin, Novak & Kohen, Ltd. has been retained to investigate several incidences of vape pen battery explosions resulting in severe injuries. The firm is thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding the spontaneous explosions, to determine why and how the batteries combusted.

Injured by Exploding Vape Pens and E-Cigarettes

Vape pens and electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) have become popular alternatives to traditional cigarettes since the products were first introduced to the U.S. market in 2007. Since 2014, more than 2.5 million Americans have used vape pens and electronic cigarettes. The number of users is growing rapidly partly due to the belief that vape pens and e-cigarettes are safer to use than traditional cigarettes and are often seen as the trendier option.

Numerous reports continue to reveal that the batteries of vape pens and e-cigarettes are susceptible to spontaneous combustions. Some of the explosions have hospitalized victims, leaving them severely injured and maimed.  According to the U.S. Fire Administration, “The shape and construction of e-cigarettes can make them more likely than other products with lithium-ion batteries to behave like “flaming rockets” when a battery fails” (U.S. Fire Administration – Electronic Cigarette Fires and Explosions). Some of the explosions have caused serious injuries where victims are left with second to third degree burns on various parts of their bodies, including the inside of their mouths. Other instances have resulted in injury to users’ eyes, knocked out their teeth and have put them in danger by starting life-threatening fires.

“I would just like to say to everyone at the firm, this is about Jeff Alter, I know that you all there have large and much more profitable cases than mine, the people that Jeff and his secretary had to deal with are simply scandals and that is being polite, but Jeff and his wonderful secretary fought for me and my family, I was off work over this for over a year. Medical bills . . . just a lot of uncertainty, fear and just being taken great advantage of, my settlement is only a few dollars, less than $4,000, this is in no way due to lack of working hard and vigorously for me [sic].”
