The first Labor Day was celebrated in the late 19th century, when a group of industrial workers gathered together in New York to celebrate their contributions to building our country. They went a day without pay in order to march for their cause which began a labor movement that inspired subsequent generations. Those hardworking union members, and those who followed in their path, helped secure privileges and benefits which we all now take for granted. Through collective bargaining, their efforts created 40-hour work weeks and thus weekends, a minimum wage, overtime pay and workplace safety laws. Because of the battles which organized labor waged, our country benefits from Medicare, Social Security, and other retirement programs. We all owe a debt of gratitude to the men and women of organized labor. At Anesi Ozmon, we take great pride in the fact that representing union workers has always been the foundation of our firm. On this Labor Day, we pay tribute to the men and women who built our great nation, and whose spirit, courage, and hard work have created opportunities for all of us.
