Few Chicago attorneys have made as profound an impact on the legal world as Nat P. Ozmon. A pioneer in the area of personal injury law and a founding member of our law firm, Anesi, Ozmon, Rodin, Novak & Kohen Ltd., in Chicago, Mr. Ozmon passed away on September 14, 2011, at age 86. He will be greatly missed and always remembered for his extraordinary contributions that helped shape personal injury law and protect the rights of injured workers and all injury victims in Illinois and throughout the country.
As one of the first lawyers to apply the Structural Work Act of Illinois, Mr. Ozmon became the voice of structural ironworkers and an advocate for safe working conditions on high-rise construction sites. His efforts led to a complete transformation of how the law was used. He also achieved precedent-setting verdicts in the area of medical malpractice. Because of his work, the Supreme Court declared that limits on recoveries in medical malpractice cases were unconstitutional.
Nat Ozmon was known for his ability to captivate a courtroom, often attributed to his background as a singer and stage performer. His resonant voice and commanding style led to many successes for his clients at trial.
In addition to his unique and memorable approach to trial work, his former colleagues, clients and mentees will remember Mr. Ozmon as a kind, intelligent, honorable, respectful, articulate and ethical man. Above all, all of us at Anesi Ozmon will remember Nat Ozmon as a true mentor who gave back to the practice of law, worked to preserve the integrity of the civil justice system and paved the way for future personal injury attorneys.
